If you haven’t lost your guitar pick yet (I do, all the time) it might be time to start using a new one. Take a look at the tip of your pick and see if it still has a nice point to it. If it’s rounded too much, it’s time to get a new one. I buy about 100 at a time so always have plenty on hand.

Using an old, worn out pick can make certain aspects of playing more difficult than they should be. Sometimes, if I don’t lose my pick, and it really gets worn out, I’m surprised by how big a difference it makes when I start using a new one.
It might seem like a small thing (well, picks are small after all), but having a new pick with a nice point makes it easier to pluck single strings and even strum, compared to a pick with a dull, rounded point. A dull pick forces you to be more accurate than necessary with your picking hand and can cause the pick to slide awkwardly on the strings.

If you’re using an old pick, do yourself a favor and throw it out (or frame it if you’re really attached to it) and get a new one. You might be surprised at how different and better it feels.
