Tonight I’ll be watching the Winter Olympics with my family. I like the sports, the competition, and all the events surrounding it, but I like the stories behind it even more.
You always hear about someone who trained for years…only to come up short.
They fail.
They crash.
They fall.
Hard. Very hard.
Most people would throw in the towel.
These people don’t.
Even though they failed, they kept going. In the face of total failure, they trained harder. They believed in themselves and didn’t let the dream ofbecoming an Olympian die.
Though they had no guarantee that their hard work would pay off, and though they had hundreds of people competing with them for the same thing, they kept pressing forward. Eventually, it all paid off.
They realized their dream and became an Olympian.
Too bad “Killer Guitar Skilz” isn’t an Olympic event, huh?
Well, we can still learn from and be inspired by the Olympians.
If nothing else, think about how Olympians train. They do not train to “get it right.” They train to never get it wrong.
That mentality makes a huge difference. Most people never take on that mentality.
Only the top performers make it, and they make it because of their mentality (NOT because of “natural talent”).
They train to never get it wrong.
You should practice the same way.
Your goal may not to be an Olympic guitarist, err, a virtuoso guitarist, but you can make your practicing far more effective by training this way.
