I’ll bet you don’t use 100% of the fretboard when you solo.

I’ll bet that you probably use, for the most part, frets 5-17 and that you venture sparingly into the very low frets and the very high frets.

You sorta pretend they don’t exist.

Why?

Because you don’t practice in those areas of the fretboard very much.

This week’s tip is simple – “Thou shalt practice in the extreme areas of the fretboard.”

Practice scales, arpeggios, chords, licks, bends, pull offs, hammer ons – everything, on the very low and very high frets.

If you’ve never done this before, you’re going to be uncomfortable.

It’s going to be…work.

But it’s going to pay off. Those low and high notes are oh so sweet.

Listen to the way Stevie Ray Vaughn uses the low register of the guitar.

There’s nothing quite like it.

Go forth, and do likewise! Your solos will be far more dynamic and interesting.
