“You need to practice at least 8 hours a day, probably 10, if you really want to be good. Most of you are wasting way too much time.”
That’s what an accomplished pianist told us when he visited the university I was at.
I’m not going to tell you that 🙂
I’ve never practice 8 hours in a single day, ever.
In fact, I’ve never practice more that 4 hours in a single day. And there are world famous virtuoso’s who say 3-4 hours is the most anyone should ever practice in a single day.
And actually, I really don’t have a standard that I hang over my students. I don’t expect everyone to practice the same amount of time every week because everyone has different goals.
If you’re ultimate goal is to be a virtuoso, I would have high expectations.
If you’re ultimate goal is to play songs around the campfire, I would have completely different expectations.
So, this week’s tip: what is your ultimate goal? How much time are you dedicating to reaching your goal? Are you spending the right amount of time, or do you need to turn off the TV or get off the internet and spend more time practicing?
Answer that question, then make time for it.
