If you feel a little bored with your playing, try experimenting with the guitar. Find out what kind of sounds you can come up with. Make up chords. Make up scales. Try writing a song, riff, or playing a solo over a song you like. Do something unexpected.
Sometimes, just chuck your lesson book across the room and forget everything you’ve been told and play guitar like a crazy person.
Buy an effects pedal and see what you can do with it.
I once wrote a piece of music for electric guitar that used rubber bands and paperclips to make the guitar sound different. It wasn’t anything amazing, but it was fun trying to force the guitar to make unusual noises. It got me thinking about the guitar in a different way.
I also once wrote a piece for 40 guitars. It was a lot of fun using that many guitars.
The Beatles did a lot for music because they experimented a lot while recording.
